Tata Steel is the
Best IT user in Indian Industry

 
NASSCOM- Economic Times Best IT User Award

The Best IT User Award was conferred on Tata Steel in the manufacturing category, in the first ever such competition organised by NASSCOM-Economic Times. The prestigious award was given to Tata Steel for its "pioneering role in the use of IT in industry." Besides having implemented state-of-the-art systems supporting business operations through the use of ERP such as SAP, Baan as well as other customer built applications, Tata Steel has an IT process which is ISO-9000 certified. The aim of the IT department of the company is to make Tata Steel an agile, informed and knowledge based and connected company at the forefront of
e-transformation. "Tata Steel has significantly expanded the reach and range of its communications through the innovative use of communications technology, Intranet and Internet. Recent web-based applications such as e-procurement have further reinforced Tata Steel’s commitment to keep abreast of the changing global IT environment," states
Mr Varun Jha, CIO of the company.

The award was presented to the company at a function held at Mumbai on July 29 by the Governor, Reserve Bank of India, Mr Bimal Jalan and was received on behalf of it by Mr Jha. Also present at the function were top officials of NASSCOM and Economic Times as well as Mr Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance.

The range and reach of IT is widespread at Tata Steel.

The awards covered 10 categories representing different industry sectors. The award assesses the IT readiness, IT infrastructure, people, policy, process and IT competence of every company. Over 100 companies across the country entered the competition for which the assessment and evaluations were done by IMRB. The evaluation submitted by it was then reviewed by a jury of experts.
