CFO Award
honours
Koushik Chatterjee

“Our strength lies in our people,” has always been Tata Steel’s belief. The reason that the Company is so proud of its people was evident when Mr Koushik Chatterjee, Executive Director (Finance), was adjudged the winner for the "Deal of the Year" by International Market Assessment (IMA) during CFO Awards 2007. The Award is an indication of the crucial role that Mr Chatterjee played in the inorganic growth of the Company in the past few years and an example of the outstanding contribution individuals from the Finance fraternity make to their organisations.

The CFO Awards were instituted by IMA six years ago. The 2007 Awards were presented during The India CFO Awards Presentation Ceremony on January 21, 2008 in Mumbai. This honour for Mr Chatterjee along with those bestowed on Mr Ratan Tata and Mr B Muthuraman are a tribute to the bold decisions made by Tata Steel’s leadership in taking India overseas.

We're in the
money

The Cleveland Institution of Engineers hosted a meeting with the Cleveland Scientific Institute in November 2007. Dr T Mukherjee, the then Deputy Managing Director of Tata Steel in India, spoke on "Technology and GDP of a Nation".

Engaging a packed lecture theatre, Dr Mukherjee explored the concept of major changes in the last 200 years being fuelled by forces such as survival, competition, convenience and ambition. Technology was shown as wealth generator, especially when compared with human achievements from 2000 BC to 1700 AD. The Industrial Revolution, with enhanced levels of production, created a meteoric rise in the fortunes of Great Britain. The GDP in India rose sharply when wheat subsidies stopped in 1966, British influence waned and markets were liberalised. Mukherjee's concluding advice was, 'Challenge the boundaries that limit you or be limited by them'.
