President of India, while visiting Tata Steel Works in Jamshedpur during the celebrations
commemorating 75 Years of Industrial Harmony in Tata Steel, declared that this achievement
was a very important milestone not only for Tata Steel, but also for India and the Indian
industry and congratulated the gathering and the Company on behalf of the entire nation.
In his address, he spoke of the great vision of the Founder of Tata Steel, Jamsetji
Nusserwanji Tata, whom he called the "leader of the economic freedom movement in
India".
His Excellency, the Governor of Jharkhand, Mr. Ved Marwah, reiterated by
saying that this rare and unique occasion being celebrated by the Company, stands as
testimony to peace and harmony inspite of being situated in a region which does not have a
conducive social environment for industrialisation. "Tata Steel is not only
surviving, it is thriving in stiff market competitiveness and is an EVA positive company.
This would not be possible without productive labour and the partnership between the
management and the labour."
His Excellency, the Governor of West Bengal, Mr. Viren Shah, also present
on this occasion held that the industrial peace attained by the Company is a great
achievement and wished that this achievement would be carried on till it achieves a
hundred years and stands testimony to the world.

satisfaction at this great achievement and gave the assurance of continued sustenance and
development of the mutual cooperation, coordination and understanding between the Union
and the Management.

that drew parallels between the President's vision and values and that of Tata Steel, and
described how the commitment of the workforce and the harmonious relationship between the
management and the workers have enabled the company to realise the highest of aspirational
goals.
While addressing the workers of Tata Steel, The President recommended that
they should personally visit neighbouring villages and provide them with physical,
electronic and knowledge connectivity to convert the entire region into a hub of economic
progress and prosperity. This is along the lines of the work being done by the numerous
social services divisions of Tata Steel such as the Tata Steel Rural Development Society,
the Tata Steel Family Initiatives Foundation, Tata Steel's Community Development and
Social Welfare Department, Tribal Cultural Society, etc.
Present at this programme were achievers from the work force, such as the
"Shabash" scheme winners who have exhibited exemplary behaviour in the areas of
quality, innovation and safety; the Tejaswinis - group of women workers who have been
trained and are now operating heavy mobile vehicles; Champion Suggestors and Vishwakarma
Awardees whose suggestions have been implemented resulting in savings worth crores of
rupees to the Company; Quality Circle, Self Initiated Projects and Total Productive
Maintenance team Champions; CII Workskills Competition awardees and other accomplished
workers and supervisors.
The superior quality of human resources of the Company is the foundation
of the company's leadership. It is the agile and enthusiastic workers that have built the
foundation of the company and have led it to the pinnacle, it has reached today. Realising
the value of this resource, Tata Steel is committed to uphold this core competence and
provide ample opportunities of growth and development to its workforce on the technical,
professional and personal fronts.
The completion of 75 glorious years of Industrial Harmony at Tata Steel is
arguably another first on the industrial landscape of Indian Commerce and Industry, and
inspires us, the Management and the Union to strengthen and sustain our relationship for
all time to come. This was a celebration of the commitment, trust, transparency and
understanding. And stood as a tribute to all those who have helped to build this wonderful
monument - a reinstatement of the beliefs that we have cherished and a declaration to
uphold them in the future.
This historic visit of the First Citizen of our Country to our Company,
has invigorated our resolve and rededicated our passion to continue to strive for
excellence and innovate continuously in our persistent pursuit of meaningful employee
empowerment to surpass the expectations of our stakeholders.
