Aruna Mishra, the gold medal winner at the 2nd Asian Boxing Championship
for Women held at Hissar (Haryana) recently, has joined Tata Steel on contract.
At a simple function in Tata Steel General Offices today, Mr B Muthuraman,
Managing Director, Tata Steel has honoured Aruna on her achievement and presented a cash
prize and also offered the job. Mr Muthuraman while praising Aruna on her success and also
expressed hope that she will bring more laurels for the country. He assured all possible
support to her to excel in her field.
Aruna, prior to achieving this feat, has won many medals in international
competitions including two gold medals while competing against Italy, a bronze medal in
the Invitational Championship held in Turkey, a gold medal in the Sr National Boxing
Championship for Women held at Aizwal (Mizoram) and also a silver medal in the Patiala
National Games in 2003.
A player of many arenas, Aruna has also performed creditably in other
games such as Handball and Athletics wherein she was selected to play in international
matches and won many medals. A Graduate from the local Women's College, Aruna also
excelled in her studies for which the Ranchi University honoured her with a University
Blue Star status presented by H E, the Governor of Jharkhand.
Aruna comes from the family of sports-persons, where her father Late K K
Mishra, an employee of Tata Steel, was an athlete of national repute. Her sister, Reena
Jha, employed with Jharkhand Police has created history by winning the gold medal in
Hammer Throw in Open National Championships held at New Delhi in the year 1996 with a
record distance. Aruna's younger sister, Taruna Mishra is also a boxer of national fame.
