Dr Jamshed J Irani, Director, Tata Sons, and former Managing Director,
Tata Steel, was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by Ernst & Young, India, at
the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, 2001 ceremony held at Mumbai on 27th September 2001.
The function was graced by Mrs Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister for Information &
Broadcasting and Mr S M Krishna, Chief Minister of Karnataka. The jury for the award
comprised of eminent personalities such as Mr Rahul Bajaj, Chairman & MD, Bajaj Auto,
Mr Janki Ballabh, Chairman, State Bank of India, Mr Tejendra Khanna, Chairman, Ranbaxy

Relations & Innovations, Murugappa Group, and Dr Rakesh Mohan, Advisor to the Union
Finance Minister. This award has been conferred on Dr Irani in recognition of his
outstanding contribution in making "Tata Steel the world's cheapest producer of steel
