Awards

Several awards were conferred on Tata Steel during the year :

• The hot strip mill, precision tube mills, bearings division (all for the first time in India) and the wire rod mill have won the TPM Excellence Award - 2004 by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM).
   
• The Steel division won the Tata Business Excellence Model (TBEM) award for “Leadership in Excellence” for 2004.
   
• The Research and Development and Scientific Division has been conferred the Technology Day Meritorious Invention Award from the National Research and Development Corporation (NRDC).
   
• Tata Steel is the only Indian company to be ranked thirty fourth in the World’s Most Respected Companies Survey 2003 for CSR. It is also the third Most Respected Indian Company in a survey conducted by Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) and Financial Times.
   
• Tata Steel has been conferred the Asian Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE), 2004 award for the second consecutive year for its efforts and contribution towards knowledge management.
   
• The coveted The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI) Award has been given to Tata Steel for CSR in recognition of its corporate leadership, good corporate citizenship and sustainable initiatives.
