Jamshedpur Plant, Jharkhand
JV between Tata Steel & Nippon Steel Corporation
The implementation of the 0.6 mtpa Continuous Annealing and Processing Line (CAPL) project at Jamshedpur for the production of automotive cold rolled flat products has gone on-stream. CAPL technology is best suited for the production of high-quality automotive skin panel steels and for the production of high-strength grades of cold rolled steels.
Kalinganagar, Odisha - Greenfield Project
Tata Steel has commissioned the first phase of the 6 million tonnes per annum greenfield project in Kalinganagar. The Company is focused not only on the execution of the plant facilities but also on addressing the socio-economic infrastructure needs of an industrial enterprise of this scale. The Company is committed to addressing the developmental needs and aspirations of the communities around the project, in the areas of health, education, livelihood and women’s empowerment among others.
The new facility at Kalinganagar will augment Tata Steel's product range to meet the changing customer needs in segments that the Company serves currently. These include Automotive, Packaging, Tubing, Construction, Appliances and Railways. The project comprises major facilities like the Sinter Plant, Coke Plant, Blast Furnace, Steel Melt Shop, Hot Strip Mill and Raw Material Handling units.
Kalinganagar Industrial Area is projected to be developed for a population of over 10 lakh by 2025 and it will be extended to 177 square kilometers as envisaged by the State Government. Know more
Gopalpur Industrial Park & SEZ
Tata Steel is the anchor tenant for the industrial park being developed at Gopalpur on an area of 2,952 acres. The Company has obtained coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) approval from the Union Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) for the industrial park. It would attract Industrial investment in this region. IJmuiden Steel Works - HIsarna Project
A 60,000 tonnes per annum HIsarna pilot plant was built previously at the Tata Steel site in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, with support from the European Commission and the Dutch Government. HIsarna is a new technology which enables the direct input of coal and fine iron ore into the iron making furnace. A third test has been completed. Should the HIsarna technology prove technically and commercially viable, the elimination of processing steps could reduce the emission of carbon dioxide from conventional iron making by 20%.

Rayong Greenfield Project
The Global Wires Business (GWB) of the Company entered into a 60:40 joint venture with Nichia Steel Works, Japan in 2012 - 2013. The joint venture “TSN Wires Co. Ltd” is in the process of setting up a 36,000 tpa Greenfield plant at Rayong in Thailand for the manufacture of premium galvanised and aluminium coated steel wires. The products made at TSN Wires will be sold in Thailand, the ASEAN region and Oceania markets.
The operational capabilities in Europe have also been strengthened through rebuilding of a blast furnace at Port Talbot in the UK and the improvement initiatives that are targeted at efficiency enhancements, product rationalisation and restructuring.
