KALINGANAGAR INTEGRATED STEEL PROJECT

Strengthening the Bond for a resurgent Orissa

Tata Steel's century old association in Orissa, from the time of its inception, and its continued commitment to be Partners in Progress is reinforced by signing of Memorandum of Understanding by Mr. B.Muthuraman, Managing Director of Tata Steel with Govt of Orissa on 17th November 2004 for setting up of a 6 million ton per annum integrated steel plant in Kalinganagar Industrial Complex at Duburi in Jajpur district of Orissa. This integrated steel project is being set up under the leadership of Mr H.M. Nerurkar, Vice President . The project will be completed in two module of 3 million ton, with the first module getting commissioned in 2008. A core team has already started working at Jamshedpur, Bhubaneswar and Duburi for implementation of the project.

Govt of Orissa has allotted around 2000 acres of land to the Steel Company for the project in Kalinganagar, which has been registered in favour of Tata Steel. Meanwhile Nippon Steel Corporation, Japan has been appointed as the Technical Consultant to the Kalinganagar Steel project and they are facilitating in finalizing the lay out of the project, which is in a very advanced stage.

Meanwhile the project office at site has initiated the construction of the boundary wall and other preparatory works at Kalinganagar Industrial Complex.

Tata Steel has also established the J N Tata Technical Education Centre at Gopalpur in 2005. This effort is a significant step towards improving the employability of the youth of Orissa and prepares them for the opportunities in the upcoming industrialisation of the State and outside. The Centre primarily trains the youth of Orissa with a view to transforming them into world-class technical professionals. Being set up in collaboration with Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF), this centre will add a new chapter to the century old relationship between Orissa and Tata Steel.
