Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran
Chairman, Non - Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran is the Chairman Designate of Tata Sons Limited and the chief executive officer and managing director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT solution and consulting firm, a position he has held since 2009.
He was appointed as a director on the board of Tata Sons on October 25, 2016.
Mr Chandrasekaran joined TCS in 1987 after completing his master’s in computer applications from Regional Engineering College, Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India.
Under his leadership, TCS has become the largest private sector employer in India with the highest retention rate in a globally competitive industry. TCS remains the most valuable company in India and ended 2015-16 with a market capitalisation of over US $70 billion. Under Mr Chandrasekaran’s leadership, TCS was rated as the world's most powerful brand in IT services in 2015 and recognised as a Global Top Employer by the Top Employers Institute across 24 countries.
A technopreneur known for his ability to make big bets on new technology, Mr Chandrasekaran has been driving TCS’s strong positioning in the emerging digital economy with a suite of innovative digital products and platforms for enterprises, some of which have since scaled into sizeable new businesses.
He was also appointed as a director on the board of India’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of India in 2016. He has served as the chairperson of IT Industry Governors at the WEF, Davos, in 2015-16. He has been playing an active role in the Indo-US and India-UK CEO Forums. He is also part of India’s business taskforces for Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Japan and Malaysia. He served as the chairman of Nasscom, the apex trade body for IT services firms, in India in 2012-13 and continues to be a member of its governing executive council.
Mr Chandrasekaran has received several awards and recognition in the business community. Recently he was honoured with the ’Business Leader Award’ at the ET Awards for Corporate Excellence 2016. He was also awarded Qimpro Platinum Standard Award 2015 (business) and Business Today’s Best CEO 2015 (IT and ITEs). He was voted the ‘Best CEO’ for the fifth consecutive year by the Institutional Investor’s 2015 Annual All-Asia Executive Team rankings. During 2014, he was voted as one of CNBC TV 18 Indian Business Icons. He was also awarded CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2014 in the business category. Mr Chandrasekaran was presented with the ’Best CEO for 2014’ award by Business Today for the second consecutive year. He has also received the Medal of the City of Amsterdam - Frans Banninck Coqc - in recognition of his endeavour to promote trade and economic relations between Amsterdam and India.
Mr Chandrasekaran was conferred with a honorary doctorate by JNTU, Hyderabad, India (2014). He has received an honorary doctorate from Nyenrode Business Universiteit, Netherland's top private business school (2013). He has also been conferred honorary degrees by many Indian universities such as the Gitam University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (2013); KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha (2012); and the SRM University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu (2010).
Mr. O. P. Bhatt
Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. O. P. Bhatt is a graduate in Science and a post graduate in English Literature (Gold Medalist). In his last assignment, from July 1, 2006 to March 31, 2011, he was the Chairman, State Bank Group, which includes State Bank of India, India’s largest commercial bank; five associate banks in India; five overseas banks; SBI Life, the country’s largest private life insurer; SBI Capital Markets, India’s leading investment bank; SBI Fund Management; and other subsidiaries spanning diverse activities
Mr. Bhatt has served as Chairman of Indian Banks’ Association, the apex body of Indian banks. He also served as India’s economic diplomacy as government’s nominee on the India-US CEO Forum, Indo-French CEO Forum and Indo-Russia CEO Forum, forging links with a cross section of the world’s business leaders.
He serves as an Independent Director on several Boards including Standard Chartered Bank plc, Tata Consultancy Services and Hindustan Unilever. He was formally appointed as the Chairman of Tata Steel with effect from November 25, 2016.
Mr. Subodh Bhargava
Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. Subodh Bhargava is a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Roorkee. He was the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and on the Board of Eicher Group of Companies. He is now the Chairman Emeritus of the same group. He is on the Board of Tata Steel Limited since 2006.
Mr. Bhargava was the President of the Confederation of Indian Industries, the President of the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and the Vice President of the Tractor Manufacturers Association. He has been associated with various State Governments, including as a member of the Insurance Tariff Advisory Committee and the Economic Development Board of the State of Rajasthan. He is currently Chairman of Tata Communications Limited, Wartsila India Limited and Director on the Boards of several other companies.
Mr. Bhargava is the recipient of the first Distinguished Alumnus Award, awarded by Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in 2005.
Mr. Koushik Chatterjee
Group Executive Director (Finance and Corporate)
Mr. Koushik Chatterjee is an Honours Graduate in Commerce from Calcutta University and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. A Wholetime Director on the Board, he was appointed as the Group Executive Director (Finance and Corporate) w.e.f. September 19, 2013.
Mr. Koushik Chatterjee joined Tata Steel in 1995. During his stint in the Company, he worked in the areas of Corporate Finance and Planning. During the years 1996-1998, he was also a visiting faculty in Corporate Finance at XLRI, Jamshedpur. In 1998, he was transferred to the Tata Steel Head Office in Mumbai and subsequently to Tata Sons Limited in the Group Executive Office (GEO). He became General Manager - Corporate Finance, Tata Sons, in 2002. During his tenure in Tata Sons Limited, he was involved in Mergers & Acquisitions activities including privatisations and joint ventures. He was also the lead facilitator in the Groupwide rollout of the Economic Value Added (EVA) initiative for the major Tata companies.
Mr. Chatterjee re-joined Tata Steel on August 1, 2003 and was appointed the Vice President (Finance) w.e.f. August 1, 2004. During his tenure, Mr. Chatterjee has led the first overseas acquisition of the Company - NatSteel Asia which has 2 mtpa finishing facilities in 7 countries in South East Asia. He subsequently led the acquisition of a 1.7 mtpa Millennium Steel (now Tata Steel Thailand) in Thailand. In 2006-07, he played a critical role in the acquisition of Corus Group plc for USD 13.7 billion, leading the Country's largest capital raising process for the acquisition.
With the announcement of the new Tata Steel Group post the acquisition of Corus, Mr. Chatterjee was appointed as Group Chief Financial Officer w.e.f. January 1, 2008. He was inducted into the Board of the Company as a Wholetime Director w.e.f. November 9, 2012. He has been responsible for Group Financial Reporting, Investor Relations, Financing Strategy including debt and equity raising, Corporate M&A, Risk Management and Compliance, Taxation Strategy and planning and co-ordination of statutory and management reporting.
As the Group Executive Director (Finance and Corporate), in addition to maintaining responsibility of the company's finance function, Mr. Chatterjee is responsible for the Tata Steel Group Corporate functions including Legal and Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Communications, Strategic Procurement, Information Systems, Group Investments, Global Mining Projects and Assurance.
He is on the Board of several Tata Steel Group companies, in India and abroad, including Tata Steel Europe, NatSteel Asia Pte. Limited, Tata Steel (Thailand) Public Company Limited, Southern Steel Berhad, Malaysia, and others. He is Chairman of the Boards of Tata Metaliks Limited and the Tinplate Company of India Limited.
Mr. Chatterjee was declared one of India's best CFOs by Business Today Magazine in 2005 and 2006 and by CNBC in 2007. More recently (March 2012), he has been awarded the Best Performing CFO in the Metals Sector by CNBC TV18. He was declared India's "Best Executive" for 2009 by Asia Money Magazine. He is also a frequent speaker in various conferences in India and abroad including the McKinsey Global CFO Forum 2008, Economist Conferences, London Business School and CII organized conferences. He is a member of the Primary Market Advisory Committee on Capital Markets of SEBI and was a member of the Takeover Regulations Advisory Committee of SEBI, which drafted the new Takeover Code. He has recently been appointed as the first Indian on the Global Preparers Forum which is advisory body of the International Accounting Standards Board, London.
Mr. Ishaat Hussain
Non - Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. Ishaat Hussain graduated in economics from St Stephens College, New Delhi. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA). Mr. Hussain joined the Board of the Indian Tube Company (a Tata Steel associate company) in 1979.
Mr. Ishaat Hussain's association with Tata Steel goes back to 1981, after Indian Tube was merged with the Company. He was the Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Finance at Tata Steel for almost 10 years, before he finally moved to Tata Sons. Currently, he holds the position of a Board Member at Tata Sons.
He is an expert in Financial Management and overall Management and Operational Control having vast experience in the areas of finance, banking, accounts, audit, taxation and general management.
Mr. Hussain is a member of the SEBI committees on insider trading and primary capital markets. He is also a member of the CII Finance Committee.
Mr. D. K. Mehrotra
Non - Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. D. K. Mehrotra is an Honours Graduate in Science from the University of Patna. He is the former Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). He was appointed a Director on the Board of Tata Steel Limited with effect from October 22, 2012.
Mr. D. K. Mehrotra joined LIC as a Direct Recruit Officer in 1977 and in an illustrious career spanning 35 years, has occupied several pivotal positions in LIC spanning three Zones and the Corporate Office at Mumbai. Prior to taking charge as Managing Director of LIC, Mr. Mehrotra was posted as Executive Director (International Operations) to lead LIC’s overseas thrust.
Mr. Mehrotra has attended several important knowledge forums in India and abroad and is associated with the apex training institutes of insurance in India like the National Insurance Academy and the Insurance Institute of India.
Mr. T. V. Narendran
Managing Director - Tata Steel India and South East Asia
Mr. T.V. Narendran is a Mechanical Engineer from REC (NIT), Trichy. He joined Tata Steel after completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta in 1988. He is a Chevening Scholar and has also attended the Advanced Management Programme in CEDEP - INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France. He became the Managing Director of Tata Steel India and South East Asia on November 1, 2013.
He was actively involved in the Tata Steel's first overseas acquisition, NatSteel, and was seconded there as an Executive Vice President in 2005. He ran operations in NatSteel thereafter as the Deputy President (Operations) and took over as the President & CEO on January 1, 2008. He played a key role in the integration of NatSteel and Tata Steel.
Before being appointed as MD - Tata Steel India and South East Asia, on November 1, 2013, Mr. Narendran was the Vice President - Safety, Flat Products & Long Products Divisions of Tata Steel.
During his stint in NatSteel, Mr. Narendran was a director on the Board of South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEAISI) and also served as the President of the ASEAN Iron & Steel Federation (AISIF) from 2007 to 2009. He was also the Vice Chairman of the CII (India Business Forum) in Singapore.
He is currently on the Boards of Tata Steel Limited, Tata Steel Europe, CEDEP, XLRI and World Steel Association. He is currently the Chairman of CII, Jharkhand.
Mr. Andrew M. Robb
Independent, Non - Executive Director
Mr. Andrew M. Robb is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and holds a Joint Diploma in Management Accounting.
Mr. Andrew Robb joined the board of Corus Group plc, and became Chairman of the Audit Committee in August 2003. Following the takeover of Corus by Tata Steel in March 2007, Mr. Robb remained on the Board of Corus Group Plc. On 22nd November 2007, he was appointed as a Non-Executive Independent Director of the Company, the position he held until 14th August 2014 as he did not offer himself for re-election to the Board at the Annual General Meeting of the Company held on that date. At the request of the Board, Mr. Robb has accepted a fresh appointment as an Additional Director of the Company w.e.f. 12th November 2014. Further, Mr. Robb's appointment as an independent director of the Company is subject to the approval of the shareholders.
Mr. Andrew Robb is currently also the Chairman of the Board and the Audit Committee of Tata Steel Europe Limited. He was Finance Director of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co., between 1983 and 1989 and then became Finance Director of Pilkington Group PLC from 1989 to 2001. Mr. Robb remained a Director of Pilkington until January, 2003. He has been Chairman of the Board of Tata Steel Europe Limited since March 2009 and its Independent Director since August 1, 2003. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc.
Dr. Peter Blauwhoff
Independent, Non- Executive Director
Dr. Peter Blauwhoff has been appointed as an Additional Director (Independent) of the Company effective February 7, 2017. Dr. Blauwhoff holds a Doctorate in Technical Sciences and a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, with honours (cum laude) from University of Twente, Netherlands.
Dr. Blauwhoff is a successful international leader with over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, in particular the downstream oil and gas business. Between 2008 and 2015, Dr. Blauwhoff held the position as the Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Shell Holding GmbH, Hamburg, Germany. He has a wide range of experience in refining, supply, marketing and end-to-end value creation in challenging downstream organizations. He served- among others - as Chairman of the German National Oil Industry Association and as a Vice-Chairman of the German Forum for Future Energies. Dr. Blauwhoff currently is Chairman of the board of the Netherlands Standardization Institute (NEN),. and he has been Member of the Supervisory Board of Royal HaskoningDHV since June 2015.
Ms. Mallika Srinivasan
Independent, Non-Executive Director
Ms. Mallika Srinivasan graduated in management studies from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, after her post graduate studies in Econometrics from the University of Madras. She joined Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited (TAFE) in 1985 and is presently its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. She is also on the Board of AGCO Corporation, USA, TATA Global Beverages Limited and the Indian School of Business.
Ms. Srinivasan has spearheaded TAFE’s growth to its present status of the third largest tractor manufacturer in the world with revenues in excess of Rs 8020 Crores in the last fiscal with diverse interests in Tractors, Farm Machinery, Diesel Engines, Engineering Plastics, Hydraulic Pumps and Cylinders, Batteries and Automobile Franchises.
She has been conferred the Business Woman of the Year Award by The Economic Times in 2005-06, The IIM Lucknow-Lakshmipat Singhania Award for National Leadership in 2005, and was one of the 125 influential alumnae selected by the Wharton School of Business at its 125th anniversary in 2007. TAFE was awarded the Business Star Award for the best unlisted company by Business Standard in 2009 and in 2010, Ms. Mallika Srinivasan was conferred Entrepreneur of the Year - Manufacturing by Ernst & Young. More recently, she was ranked among India’s 50 most powerful women in business by Fortune Magazine and as one of Asia’s 50 power business women by Forbes Asia magazine.
