Tata Steel cadets bag gold for India at the Archery World Cup

Jamshedpur, June 11, 2010

Tata Steel archers comprising Jayant Talulkdar, Rahul Banerjee & Mangal Singh Champia have brought laurels to India with their exceptional prowess in archery this world cup at Antalya, Turkey. The effort of all three has put India in the topmost position in the Indian Men Recurve Team at the World Cup Stage 2 Championship that began on 7th June and concluded today.

The results of the matches are as follows:

  • India beat Belarus in 1/8th - 224/211
  • India beat Russia in 1/4th - 224/219
  • India beat Japan in Semi-finals - 216/213
  • Indian beat USA in Finals - 218/214

Women’s Team comprising Dola Banerjee, Bombyla Devi and Deepika Kumari won the first tie against Turkey by 211/195 but lost to Georgia in the next by 212/216.

In Individual Women’s category, Deepika has shown excellent grit by defeating Koehl of US in 1/32 tie, Buitron of Spain in 1/16 and Williamson of Great Britain in 1/8 tie. However, she lost to Steponava of Russia in Quarter Finals. Rimil Biruily lost to Lionetti of Italy in 1/32 tie.
