Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon ready to roll-out for the third year

Tata Steel, in association with the Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha, will be organizing the 3rd edition of Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon- 2018 on January 14, 2018, to commemorate National Youth Day. This was announced at a press conference held today in Bhubaneswar by Shri Vineel Krishna, Director-cum-Addl Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, along with Mr Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Mr Arun Misra, Vice President, Project Gopalpur and MD, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone, Mr Rajiv Kumar, Vice President Operations, Tata Steel Kalinganagar. Noted actors Mr Sabyasachi Mishra, Ms Archita Sahu and Odia sprinter Ms Dutee Chand were also present on the occasion.

The official T-Shirt for the marathon was unveiled at the event.

Complimenting Tata Steel for the initiative, Shri Krishna expressed hope that the upcoming half marathon will evoke even better interest amongst sports enthusiasts than last year. Mr Bhaskaran said that the company endeavours to make the Tata Steel Bhubaneswar Half Marathon one of the key running events in India. Towards achieving this, all necessary steps are being taken including introduction of contemporary technology to conduct and monitor the marathon. Mr Arun Misra added that the company is known for its commitment for all-round development of society and sports has always remained a focus area. On the occasion, Mr Sabyasachi Mishra, Ms Archita Sahu and Ms Dutee Chand shared their fitness mantra and the importance of being fit.

Covering a distance of 21.1 km, the half marathon will start from Kalinga stadium, towards Khandagiri Square and return to culminate at the stadium. In addition, a 10 Km run for men and women for 16 years and above and a 5 Km run for boys and girls under the age of 16 years and born after January 14, 2002 will be organised. The registration fees for half marathon is Rs 300, for 10 km run is Rs 200 and for 5 km run is Rs 100. All participants will be given participation T Shirts, BIB Chip and Number and refreshments. The official website www.tatasteelbbsr-run.com for online registration, goes live from November 15, 2017.

State-of-the-art technology consisting of Timing Mats and its control units, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips, split timing mats on route, tracking camera, wi-fi network on route as per international standard will be used to follow world-class standards at the marathon. Awards worth Rs 8,64,000 will be given to winners in three different categories, with the highest prize money of Rs 1,00,000 going to each of the winners in the (men and women races) of the 21.1kms run.

Mr Manikanta Naik, Chief Resident Executive, Tata Steel, Bhubaneswar, Mr Kulvin Suri, Chief, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel, India & SEA and other senior officials of the company and Government of Odisha were also present during the announcement.
