Mr B Muthuraman Recieves Doctorate from IIT, Kharagpur

Jamshedpur, September 15, 2012

Mr B Muthuraman, Vice Chairman, Tata Steel, was today awarded the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur.

Mr Muthurman received the honour from the hands of the Hon’ble President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, at the 58th Annual Convocation Ceremony of IIT, Kharagpur held at the institute’s campus at Kharagpur.

Earlier this year Mr Muthuraman was conferred with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Awards by the Government of India for his significant contribution to Indian Trade and Industry.

Mr Muthuraman joined Tata Steel in 1966 and has held various positions at the Company including Vice President (Marketing & Sales) and Vice President (Cold Rolling Mill Projects). He was appointed as Executive Director in 2000, Managing Director of the Company in 2001 and non-executive Vice chairman in 2009.

Under his visionary leadership, Tata Steel became a truly global company marked by some of landmark events like the acquisition of Corus, UK and Netherlands, in 2007.

Currently he is Chairman of Tata International Limited and Tata Africa Holdings Limited. He also sits on the Boards of Bosch India Limited, Tata Industries Limited and Strategic Energy Technology Systems Pvt. Ltd. Mr Muthuraman was also President of Confederation of Indian Industry during the year 2011-12.
