Dav Centenary Public School, Baniahir Win Tata Steel Centenary Inter-School Quiz Contest

Anirban Dubey and Vikrant Kumar Vikram from DAV Centenary Public School, Baniahir won the Tata Steel Centenary Inter-School Quiz Contest that was held in Jamadoba today. Carmel, Digwadih came second and Indian School of Learning, Jharia stood third.

The runners up team won a cash prize of Rs. 2500 each followed by Rs. 1500 for the team that stood third. The chief guest for the occasion was Mr. Chawala Diwaker, General Manager, Jharia division, who gave away awards to the winning teams. He praised the participants for their enthusiasm and knowledge. The Jamadoba section of the Tata Steel Centenary received an overwhelming response from the school children of Jamadoba, Sijua and Digwadih areas with 50 teams of 2 students each from 7 schools.

To commemorate 100 years of its glorious existence, the company has planned a host of activities throughout the year. One of the key highlights is the Tata Steel Centenary Inter-School Quiz Competition that will travel across a number of towns and cities in India. The travelling quiz has already set foot in Ranchi and Raipur and was held in Jamadoba today. In addition to these cities, the quiz contest will travel to West Bokaro, Naomundi, Chennai, Tarapur, Kolkata, Haldia and Bangalore followed by the Grand Finale in Jamshedpur.

The Inter-School Centenary Quiz is being organized with the objective to promote the culture of quest for knowledge amongst students, enabling them to emerge as enriched well-informed and global citizens. This being Tata Steel’s Centenary Year, the Quiz is special as the 3 winners from all centres will be called to Jamshedpur for the Grand finale. The mega quiz is scheduled to take place later this year in the Steel City, genesis ground of Tata Steel.

Social development, community engaging activities, path-breaking initiatives for social upliftment, campaigns and events to promote the youth and creating benchmarks in the CSR, are some of the facets that sum up 100 years of Tata Steel, a global enterprise which has its footprint across the world.

It is a proud moment to celebrate 100 years of the first private sector steel plant in India, which started with a production capacity of 1, 00,000 tonnes has today transformed into a global giant with a production capacity of almost 26 MT. Continuing this trend, Tata Steel Centenary Inter – School Quiz promises to be a platform for increasing the competitive attitude amongst the youth which is essential for the building of the nation.
