The nodal centre-AIDS provides free health check-up for truckers and their helpers six days a week. During reporting period, 1138 truckers were checked and two training camps were organized covering 186 participants. Condom distribution was carried out through six vending machines located in Transport Nagar, Public Toilets & Markets. The Nodal group also organized 39 programmes covering 1718 employees of Taj Group of Hotels across the country.

On 11th June 2003, Tata Steel was conferred the prestigious Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS Award for work in the community.

LA14 OUR HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND ILO GUIDELINES

The organization during the year was pre-certified to OHSAS-18001 and SA-8000 Standards and ILO guidelines on Occupational Safety & Health Management System (ILO-OSH-2001). We expect certification to these standards during FY 2004-2005.

LA15 ADDRESSING HEALTH & SAFETY AT WORKPLACE JOINTLY WITH TRADE UNIONS

The Joint Consultation agreement with Trade Union was signed in 1956 to strengthen participation of workforce in the management of operation of the organization including Health & Safety. The joint committees as explained above have been formed under these agreements at all locations with equal participation of employees and management. The representatives from Union are duly elected members of the workforce of the company.

In order to implement EMS & OHSMS, extensive training and awareness of company as well as contractors employees is an essential part of the management programmes. At Tata Steel FY 03-04 training had been an important activity both on EMS & OHSMS as shown below.
