PUBLIC SECTOR

EC8 Taxes paid to the Government

The total sum of taxes like sales tax, excise duty, wealth tax, etc. paid by the organization during reporting period is Rs.12.621 Billion against Rs.11.077 Billion during 02-03. Break-up by region is not available.

EC10 Donations to community, civil society and other groups

The total donations to the community and civil society during the reporting period were – Rs.67.6 Million against Rs.44.5 Million during 02-03. (In the earlier report this was stated as Rs. 21.40 Million for 02-03). The same has been revised upward to Rs. 44.5 Million.

EC12 Spent on community infrastructure development

Tata Steel during reporting period undertook the construction of 11 schools in Orissa. In Gujarat it constructed 21 schools and 50 housing units. On fresh request from Govt. of Gujarat additional 50 housing units will be constructed shortly in Gujarat. The total expenditure incurred on these projects will be reported next year as the projects are not yet complete.

EC9 Subsidies received by us

The organization has not received any government subsidy, tax break, duty drawback, government benefits etc. during the reporting period.

INDIRECT ECONOMIC IMPACTS

EC13 Indirect economic impacts of our business

Tata Steel has not made any attempt to map and value its economic externalities, but recognises that by virtue of nature of its operations there are several economic externalities. Tata Steel has created a township and other allied infrastructure, which have several redistribution and benefits. Although there is no established methodology to capture indirect impacts, there are several institutions and organizations in and around Tata Steel Enterprises that are supported by the Steel Company both in terms of providing skilled manpower (employees as members, executives and directors), sourcing goods & services and also financial support. These organizations employ thousands of people who are indirectly benefited by the organization’s products and services. Such organizations include Small Scale Industries, Rotary Clubs of Jamshedpur (6 Nos.), Lions Clubs of Jamshedpur (5 Nos.), Artificial Limb Fitting Centre, Aurogya Bhawan, 2 Hospitals, 10 English Media Public Schools, Transport Nagar, Jamshedpur Sports Association, Zoo, TSRDS, TCS, Credit Societies, Pay Roll Savings, RD Tata Technical Institute, etc.
