March 20, 2026 marked a historic moment for Tata Steel as the Company inaugurated its 100% scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) plant in Ludhiana, Punjab in India. This state-of-the-art facility, representing a ₹3,200 crore investment, stands as a cornerstone of Tata Steel's ambitious 'Net Zero by 2045' goal and marks the largest investment by a Tata Group company in Punjab.

The 0.75 MTPA plant is designed to produce high-quality Tata Tiscon TMT rebars entirely from ferrous scrap. It integrates India's first MIDA (Micromill Danieli) and Q-One technologies, ensuring unparalleled efficiency and optimised power consumption. With operations powered by approximately 50% renewable energy and a Zero Effluent Discharge system, the plant will achieve a remarkably low carbon footprint of less than 0.3 tCO₂/tcs — a stark contrast to traditional steelmaking. Completed in just two years, the project also exemplifies operational excellence exhibited by Tata Steel's teams.
