CORPORATE INITIATIVES
There are economic, environmental and social
impacts on our communities arising out of our activities. The economic impacts
had been largely positive due to employment creation, infrastructure development and
overall contribution to Regional & National economy. We recognize adverse
environmental & social impacts as a result of our activities and address these
proactively. Our commitment to manage these impacts has been articulated in Tata Code of
Conduct, Quality Policy, EHS Policy, HR Policy and Social Responsibility Policy (Indicator
3.7). The impacts are;
Environmental Air Emission, Water
Pollutants, Resource Conservation, Global Warming, etc.
Social Health, Land Management,
Pressure on Logistics, etc.
Under TBEM these issues are addressed by various agencies
in the organization, which includes target setting in the form Balance Score Card,
monitoring and measurement and review and reporting of results. Some of the results of our
initiative towards addressing community concern are presented here below. The voluntary
actions to improve quality of life of community initiated by Tata Steel in line with
VISION2007 are also highlighted in the following section.
Employee volunteerism was arguably the most
identifiable trait that came to the fore, last year. A devastating fire ravaged the houses
and belongings of the families of Agasiya village in Jharkhand. The employees of Tata
steel rushed with aid and contributions from their personal incomes. This act illustrated
the spirit of employee volunteerism that is taking deep roots in our ethos.
Tata Steel in the year under review, through the Tata
Relief Committee (TRC) continued to provide rescue, relief, rehabilitation and
reconstruction services in locations across the country, affected by natural calamities.
The TRC along with the Government of Orissa jointly
undertook the construction of 11 schools in the year.
