LA7 HEALTH & SAFETY PERFORMANCE

Loss of man-days due to accident are not accounted for, if a person becomes fit for duty within 48 hours from the time of accident. However, if the duration of absence from duty exceeds 48 hours, the entire duration starting from the time of accident (8 hours of working period per man day) is considered. The frequency distributions on loss on man-days due to accident for past four years are given below. In case of fatal accidents, 6000 person days’ loss is considered. Safety statistics & related information is furnished below;

Overall there is 14% reductions in loss time injury case and 6% increase in Fatality case, Safety Performance of Steel Works & Jharia Division are areas of concern.

Accident Trend:
Trend in the pattern of accidents since last 4 years as shown in the box below indicates that there is no reduction in the accident cases. However, recent initiatives undertaken like partnership with Dupont and implementation of OHSAS-18001 to improve safety performance are expected to reduce accident rate.
  
  
During the year 2003-2004, the Steel Company was pre-certified for OHSMS implementation as per the guidelines of OHSAS-18001. The above data do not include accident data for Mines and is only for Steel Works.
