Prabal Patra a B.Tech. in Instrumentation & Electronics from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. Prabal joined Consolidated Fibres & Chemicals Ltd, Haldia, West Bengal as an Engineer in June 1992. He later moved to BOC India Ltd (Jamshedpur & Mumbai) as Sr. Engineer from 1996-1998.

In September 1998, he joined Tata Steel to the post of Dy. Manager and is currently working as Technologist, Instrumentation and Control Group, Automation Division, Tata Steel. At Tata Steel, he has developed some important automation solutions for various departments including INFRA RED BASED Slag detection system (For LD vessels at LD#2 & LD#1, Opticrop (Crop Optimization System for HSM), Width Gauge (Width Measuring System for HSM & CRM), Camber Slope Detection (For HSM), Slab Length measurement (For Slab Caster), Sector Gate Automation system (For Sinter Plant) etc.


Anindya Sarkar a Bachelor of Engineering (Instrumentation & Control Engineering) from Basaveshwar Engineering College, Bagalkot in 1999. Joined Tata Steel in August, 2001 as Technologist, Instrumentation and Control Group, Automation Division.

Since then he has been associated with several development projects in Tata Steel including important ones like INFRA RED BASED Slag detection system (For LD vessels) at LD#2 & LD#1, Furnace Scope (Furnace Viewing System for “G“ & “F“ Blast Furnaces). Microwave (RADAR) based Stock Line Measurement System (For “A“ & “D“ Blast Furnaces), WRM Reheating Furnace Level 1, Break Out Detection System at Ld 2 & SC as well as the SCADA system at Sinter Plant and Coke Ovens Battery#7. 

His work profile extends to design and development of JAVA Applets, undertaking System Designing using communication and data acquisition techniques and its application in various plants and mills. 


Ashish Tiwari after completing his B.Sc. (Mathematics and Physics) and M.Sc. (Computer Science) from the University of Allahabad in 1999, he worked in FCS Software Solutions for two years.

He later joined as a Researcher in the Instrumentation and Control group of Automation Division of Tata Steel in March 2002. His research areas include 2D signal and image processing, probabilistic models of human/machine vision, Robust optical flow estimation and pattern classification techniques.

 Involved in multiple projects which include the INFRA RED BASED Slag detection system (For LD vessels) at LD#2 & LD#1, Automatic Surface Inspection System for HSM, Opticrop - Crop Optimization System for HSM and Slab Length measurement for Slab Caster, Ashish has also pursued a Fellowship programme at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA in 2004-05.


S. Sistla joined Tata Steel in 1993, and presently he is Chief (Automation). He was involved in development and implementation of several automation and control systems in the plant. He was the project leader for development of heating control system for coke plant 2. His areas of interest are process modelling, advanced control and signal processing.

He was associated with expansion projects in Bokaro, Bhilai,and Rorkela Steel plants in his earlier assignment with M/s. Instrumentation Limited. He did his engineering from Andhra University.
