Tata Business Excellence Champions Programme

natsteel

"On the opening day we met the other 22 participants from Tata companies around Delhi. Since there are no major Tata Steel companies nearby, these participants were from industries such as electricity

distribution, air-conditioning and telecommunications.

This breadth allowed for sharing of experiences across industries.

What struck me in this programme, reflecting the emphasis of TBEM, is the drive towards excellence in spirit, not just for cosmetic purposes. Done correctly, everyone’s lives will be positively impacted, and as a result, our company stands to gain. Transform our Company we must, and when everyone completes their scheduled participation, we will muster our efforts towards this end.

I am very glad to have attended this programme, and feel privileged to be part of this impending Company journey towards excellence."

MBM6 Betters Mill Efficiency Record

A view of the shopfloor of the rolling mill

In July 2005, the rolling mill (MBM6) achieved a mill uptime of 90.34 percent. This bettered its previous record of 90.21 percent set in May 2004.

Even more commendable is the fact that MBM6 managed mill uptimes of more than 90 percent for two consecutive months in June and July - something which has never been accomplished before. Most world-class steel mills have a mill efficiency benchmark of 90 percent.
