Promoted in 1990, by Tata Steel and the
West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Tata Metaliks Limited, it is a
one-stop shop for pig iron foundries where the foundry owners get customised
products which meet their quality and end-use requirements.
The Company had commenced production in
April 1994 with an initial capacity of 90,000 tpa. The introduction of hot blast stoves,
strand type pig iron casting machines and blowers led to the capacity at the plant
increasing to 1,40,00 tpa in October 2000. It zoomed up to touch 1,63,000 tpa in 2005.
Apart from catering to domestic producers, Tata Metaliks markets its products
internationally to 14 countries including Egypt, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and
others.

The 2nd Blast Furnace of the Company
inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mr Buddadeb Bhattacharya on
February 26, 2005, in the presence of Mr Nirupam Sen, Honourable Minister for Commerce
& Industries, Government of West Bengal and Deputy Managing Director, Tata Steel, Dr T
Mukherjee. With a capacity that the first blast furnace, the two together will now
raise the overall production capability of Tata Metaliks to 3,20,000 tpa, making it the
biggest foundry grade producer of pig iron in India.
The Company has been repeatedly
recognised for its business excellence by industry associations as well as government
agencies. The awards received by it include the Udyog Ratna Award by IES for 2003 and 2004
for the Managing Director of the Company, Mr H K Jha; Commendation Certificate
conferred by the CII-EXIM Bank Business Excellence Awards for 2003 and 2004; the Benchmark
Achievement Award in IMRB Survey for 2003; CII HR Award for 2003; the Greentech
Environment Award as well as the Pollution Control Award conferred by the Government of
West Bengal.
