If today there are firsts
that the Company is scoring on the commercial front, on the social front too it continues
to commit itself to firsts, which in the years to come might rewrite corporate history.
Tata Steel had been granted land
by the Orissa and Chhattisgarh Governments for its greenfield integrated steel plants. The
Companys commitment to improving the quality of life however, would not
allow it to remain unaffected by the socio-economic and psychological impact on the
families who would be displaced by this project.
Therefore, in a rare initiative in the
history of corporate India, Tata Steel has sought to establish a unique identity for them.
Each family displaced by its projects is now being identified as a member of the
Tata Steel Parivar. Each of them will be given an identity card to ensure that
the benefits offered by the Company, over the next five years, accrue to them. The card
will include all relevant information about the family members and help the Company and
Government track each family.
Rehabilitation
and Resettlement Policy
The Company will monitor and work in
close coordination with the District Administration to ensure that the benefits of the
Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy reaches each of the families. Integral to the
policy is ensuring that first, the compensation for the land and |

structure on the site for a
house is settled. Second, a team based in the community will ensure that the
rehabilitation and settlement benefits due to them are received. Equally important is the
emotional and psychological reassurance the Company will extend through support in key
areas.
