Parivar at Kalinganagar for R&R

Tata Steel has devised an extremely unique concept to fulfill its responsibility for the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) of families displaced by the Kalinganagar project. Each family will be identified and made a part of the Tata Steel Parivar initiatives so as to infuse in them the hope for a better future. Each of them will be given a Smart Identity Card containing all relevant family details. In collaboration with Nettur Training Foundation (NTTF) the Company has also designed “Prerna for a Brighter Future”, a customised training intervention for the displaced youths.

The first batch of 29 young members of Tata Steel Parivar began their ninety-day training programme on May 10. They successfully completed their training on Welding Technology under this initiative. Graduation certificates and letters of appointment were presented to them at a special ceremony held at Kate Puri Convention Centre by Mr Asit Panigrahi, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Jajpur.

Once the Kalinganagar Steel Plant is commissioned these trainees will be employed as per the Company’s Rehabilitation & Resettlement Policy. In the interim, they will be provided opportunities to work at Tata Steel’s construction site under reputed companies. Tata Steel will constantly monitor their skill development so as to facilitate increases in incomes and a better quality of life. Of the youth who have been trained by Tata Steel only 11 are high school graduates, while most others have studied upto standards IV to IX. Some, however, have never written with a pen before. Today, all of them are qualified welders and believe they are “Vishwakarmas.” Their level of self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem has skyrocketed

“I had never thought that one day I would be a skilled worker in an Industrial Area. Earlier I would spend my time wandering around the villages with friends. Today, I understand the role a citizen of a country can play in development and certainly have a brighter future now,” says Mahabir of Baiderbari village.
