Thus, even before Tata Steel was incorporated, the very manner in which the Tatas sought to find their source of iron-ore, set them apart from all other business. The route they chose was value-based, it required hard work and adherence to ethics, even in the inhospitable environment of the jungles. Reflecting on the history of the Company at its Centenary Celebrations held at the Steel Works on August 26, 2007, Mr Muthuraman said, “More than a chronology of events, the century of our Company is a celebration of enduring values, exemplary corporate governance and unique achievements in creating customer delight.”
Mr Muthuraman went on to reiterate the goal that Tata Steel represented for J N Tata, of unflagging faith in India – an insatiable urge to bring benefits to his countrymen. In remembering it, Mr Muthuraman said, “The centenary story of Tata Steel is also linked intrinsically to the genesis and growth of an Industrial India, as envisioned by our Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. It is a story that we will continue to celebrate in multiple ways over the next one year. We look forward to another hundred years of creating wealth and the well-being of the communities we serve.”
The grand event unfolded with a cake-cutting ceremony in the morning at the Tata Steel Archives, after which the redesigned Founder’s Gallery was inaugurated.
Mr Muthuraman launched the Tata Steel Centenary microsite-www.tatasteel100.com, which has already received a phenomenal response.
