The relevance of Inclusive Growth |

Tata Steel is a hundred year institution. Our continued licence to operate is, we believe as a result of our responsible business practices. These practices focus on sustainability, social and environmental, and hence embrace inclusive growth. We invest in the welfare of our people as well as for the communities that surround us and for the health of the environment. Inclusive Growth has been our founding philosophy, the raison d’etre of our existence.
As we grow and globalize in the new century of our existence, which begins this year, we once again, much like we did in our initial years, have the opportunity to work with nations, diverse communities and groups. Business practices established by us through good times and difficult ones reaffirm our faith that even as inclusive growth may change in form and character to evolve with time, it will always drive sustainability and through it, profits.
It is my belief, that Tata Steel has been the rare crusader for sustainability expressed through inclusive growth. Clearly if we cannot benefit lives, we must not be the reason for disrupting them.

“Good Thoughts, Good Words and Good Deeds” was the traditional Zoroastrian idealogy Jamsetji Tata infused in all the companies he founded, including Tata Steel, which came into existence a hundred years ago. A visionary, Jamsetji Tata, in fact, nurtured from this seed of sustainability a timeless enterprise, whose purpose would not be to merely grow profits. It would bear fruit for the community, nourish and strengthen it as well as protect and preserve the environment.
ata Steel has only recently completed its run of 100 years. Adrenalin is now pumping through its veins, making it more vibrant than ever before. It is suffused with the energy and spirit to sustain its growth momentum for another hundred years. This, indeed, is cause for celebration; a celebration of all the ideals that have made the Company what it is and hence those that it will continue to uphold. Over the past century it has evolved into a global corporation, with enormous equity in all geographies, gained from the trust that it has earned by diligently following Jamsetji’s ideals.
Tata Steel launched the celebrations for its Centenary Year, on a pious and restrained note, at a function held at its Jamshedpur Steel Works on August 26 – the day it was registered. The function was attended by employees only, during which the blessings of the Almighty were sought for the Company’s continued growth based on the ideals laid down by the Founder.
Many more functions are on the anvil. The year-long celebration will include all stakeholder groups of Tata Steel as they are equally responsible for sustaining its commitment to the values that it has represented for over a century.
Congratulations, once again, on the occasion of the Centenary!!
