Jayant as Dr Mukherjee looks on

At the FITA METEKSAN Archery World Cup 2006 held at Croatia in May, Jayant Talukdar, a former cadet of the Tata Archery Academy, now on contract with Tata Steel, won the individual Gold Medal in the Recurve Section. Jayant defeated Magnus Peterson of Sweden by 108 points to 105 points in the finals to wrest the title. Peterson had won an Olympic Medal at the Atlanta Olympic. En route to the finals, Jayant defeated Athens Olympic Medalist Marco Galiazzo of Italy in the semi finals with a score of 109 vs 108 points.

In appreciation of Jayant’s excellent performance, the Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman presented him with a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh at a brief ceremony held on June 22, 2006.

At the same event, the Indian ladies team comprising entirely of archers from Jharkhand, ensured that archery in India remains synonymous with Tata Steel. They won the silver medal after being edged out by France with a score of 114 to 112 points in the compound event. They had in the semi finals defeated the much fancied world champions - USA - to advance to the finals. The ladies team comprising Sakro Besra, Manjudha Soy and Jhanu Hansda are all TAA products.

TFA cadets 2006 all set to take the field

The 2006 batch of the Tata Football Academy graduated recently. The ceremony was attended by the Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman. The cadets of the Academy have been excelling at the national level, with several of them winning club contracts immediately after graduating.

It is due to the excellent performance of the cadets and the high skill level displayed by teams at the JSA Football League matches that the National Football League is considering awarding some of its matches to Jamshedpur. Thus, very soon the steel city may host teams such as East Bengal or Mohan Bagan.
