Tata Incorporated celebrates is Diamond Jubilee

The Group marks 60 years of its presence overseas

“I was poring over some accounts in the office when the door opened and a stranger in a strange garb entered. He walked in, leaned over my desk and looked at me for a full minute in silence. Finally, he said in a deep voice, “Are you Charles Page Perin?” I said, “Yes...”

“Will you come to India with me?” I was dumbfounded, naturally. But don’t know what character and force radiated from Tata’s face, and kindliness, too. “Well,” I said, “Yes, I’ll go.” And I did.” This snatch from Charles Page Perin’s diary records the earliest contact that the Tata Group had with the United States and North America. Inspired by the development of the United States, this nationalist travelled to the country frequently to garner ideas and find the expertise for his projects.

Tata Incorporated established its office in 1945, and was at the forefront of establishing a presence for Indian industry overseas. Sixty years later, it serves as the representative office of the Tata Group in the United States, Canada and South America. Many of the Group’s 90 companies including Tata Tea/Tetley, Tata Consultancy Services, Indian Hotels and its telecommunications unit VSNL, has made the United States its marketplace.

Tata Incorporated specialises in all aspects of global trading, including managing logistics, information and financial flows related to the lines of business within the Group.
