a close look at NatSteel's facilities |
If the gold
plated ox presented to the Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata is any
indication of the attributes that a person born in the Year of the Ox has, then the
employees of NatSteel must be delighted to have a Chairman who is certain to work
tirelessly for their growth and prosperity! Perhaps, that is why they waved and applauded
enthusiastically, smiled and greeted him at very stop, as Mr Tata made his way around the
steel mill of NatSteel Asia in Singapore.

The last stop of the tour was at the
Sports and Recreation Club room where Mr Koh Lok Lan, Head of Shift, Rolling Mill,
presented Mr Tata two scrolls with a Chinese calligraphy couplet written by him, along
with the gold plated ox.
The elaborate dinner which followed,
offered the government ministers, legal advisors, key business leaders and NatSteel
Asias partners present there, with an excellent opportunity to interact with the
Chairman in an informal atmosphere and strengthen business relations with the Tata Group.
Century of Trust, an
interactive exhibition set up during the visit provided a perfect foil to the message of
industrial harmony, nation building and trust that the Chairman took to the city state.
The exhibition showcases 100 years of service and contribution made by the Tata Group to
India.
Luncheon for AIDS
 |
| A social message presented in a fun
way |
It was a glitzy show where the gathering
enjoyed a comedy skit, song and dance and at the same time were quizzed about HIV/AIDS,
sans all the preaching and moral policing that tends to accompany such sessions. At the
risk of sounding cliched it was a lunch-time AIDS Awareness Show with a
difference.
Held on March 10, 2005 at the WAB Training Room, the show discussed safe sex practices,
the importance of HIV testing for those with multiple sexual partners as well as
highlighted the advantages of a monogamous relationship in ensuring protection against
AIDS. All this was explained to the employees of NatSteel through comedy and
entertainment, without undermining the gravity of the problem. Of the 121 people who
attended the show, as many as 17 were visitors from the Ministry of Health, Health
Promotion Board and Jurong Shipyards.
Jolly Good
Fellows
About 140 staff and their families turned
up on March 11, 2005 at MacRitchie Reservoir Park to participate in Back to the Good
Old Days, an event organised by the Sports and Recreation Club to let go of stress
and dedicate the entire day to fun, frolic and recreation.
18 teams of five each, raced against time
to complete the games which included a mix and match race, treasure hunt, ping pong ball
race, gunny sack race, etc.
Sportsmanship reigned supreme with
participants giving off their best and yet cheering the winners with equal gusto. The top
five teams won Robinsons and NTUC vouchers worth $ 500. The gifts were presented by Mr
Melvin Choo, General Manager of NatFerrous, the guest of honour for the event.
