Water Campaign reaches Garden City

With water scarcity severely impacting the Quality of Life in India’s metros, the Tata Pipes Parivaar Water Conservation Project, a nation-wide campaign by the Company’s profit centre, has achieved tremendous success.

On June 4, the Division organised a seminar on rainwater harvesting, “Water is Life” in Bangalore, India’s Garden City. This seminar sought to sensitise Bangalorians to the need to extensively harvest rainwater. In addition, the campaign which has already been taken to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, highlighted the extent to which water can be saved by using it sensibly, and avoiding mismanagement and waste.

The seminar at Bangalore was inaugurated by Mr Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director, Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board (KUWSDB). The speakers included Mr M N Vidyashankar, Commissioner of Bangalore Development Authority, Mr DPS Kapoor, Tata Pipes spokesperson and Mr Vishwanath S, Coordinator & Trustee of CIVIC.

The water table reports in Karnataka point towards an impending water crisis. The Bangalore Mahanagar Palike Building byelaws, have since June 6, 2004, made it mandatory for all new buildings to have rainwater harvesting structures.

The Tata Pipes Parivaar Water Conservation Project was launched on June 5, 2004 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Since then field teams have through the display and distribution of communication material at strategic locations have extensively promoted water saving.

EPAs march ahead, new ones join family

Tata Steel’s Wire Division has sought to outsource capacities close to its markets to face the challenge of regional competition as well as to achieve the lowest delivered cost. The Division has also enhanced its product range and business profile.

During the last year, Wire Division has built up a dedicated team of External Processing Activity so that it can provide its External Processing Agents with active technical and commercial support as well as train them for product manufacturing. In the year 2004-05, the Division introduced seven EPAs from across the country.
