eye for expansions

It was a proud and momentous day for the Tata Steel family when the Honourable Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Mr Arjun Munda inaugurated the Company’s newly added capacity of one million tonnes at the Steel Works in Jamshedpur on May 12, 2005. This project is the first step in the Company’s endeavour to achieve a production of 7.4 million tonnes per annum at its Jamshedpur-based Steel Works. The Company’s Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman said, “ it is a historic day for Tata Steel. With the added facilities, Tata Steel will move ahead in the journey of being a world class Company.” Proud of the existing facilities at Jamshedpur, Mr Muthuraman added “today one does not have to go abroad to view a world class company, but has to only visit Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur steel plant.”

During the visit, the Chief Minister visited Power House #5, LD - 2 Slab Caster, the state-of-the-art Cold Rolling Mill and ‘G’ Blast Furnace. He was visibly impressed with the Company’s contribution, in the last 98 years, to the development of the country as well as its people and thanked Tata Steel for providing numerous avenues for the development of the State.

Today, the principal reason why the Company is considered “a cut above the rest” is because it has relentlessly pursued progress with utmost responsibility towards the nation and the community. A plethora of accolades and awards have gilded this journey, each of which have made Tata Steel proud, especially since the Company has earned them without compromising on the strong beliefs that its forefathers upheld with honour.

A number of dignitaries joined the Company in celebrating the ever fast moving progress of its journey to excellence. They included Mr Raghubar Das, Honourable Minister of Finance, Government of Jharkhand; Mr Arun Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department of Mines, Government of Jharkhand and Mr R B B Singh, President, Tata Workers’ Union. Mr Raghubar Das described Tata Steel as “not only a famous steel making company but a wealth creating and nation building organisation.”
