Commemorating
A Century of Trust

The year 2004 has great significance for the Tata Group as it marks the birth centenaries of J R D Tata and Naval Tata as well as the death centenary of the Founder Jamsetji Tata. The Founder’s Day celebration, therefore, not only highlighted Tata Steel’s achievements during the year but also its legacy, especially in terms of values and principles.

A well researched exhibition “Century of Trust” highlighting the life and times of these luminaires was organised by the Centre for Excellence. It brought to the fore J N Tata’s pioneering role in the industrial progress of India, Naval Tata’s consciousness as a modern day employer and J R D Tata’s role in the socio-economic development of the country. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chairman, Mr Ratan N Tata.

The illuminations at Jubilee Park and the Town Office this year were among the best the town has seen in recent times. Particularly interesting for the children was an entire section devoted to the Cartoon Network.

The Founder’s Day celebrations at the Steel Works was a symbol of the progress the company

has made in advancing the vision of the Founder. Contingents from individual departments of Tata Steel, associate and Group companies paid floral tributes to the Founder’s statue at the Works Main Gate. The celebrations were attended by a large number of invitees and foreign visitors. Similar celebrations were held across the company’s units as well as at the Wire Division.

At the Founder’s Day Sports meet the“Sportsman of the Year” Award was presented to Chess Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua by Dr Jamshed J Irani, Director, Tata Sons. The entire afternoon saw departmental and inter-divisional teams vie to prove their sporting prowess.

To mark the occasion, Blood Donation drives were also held at the Borivli and Tarapur Plants of the Wire Division. A total of 221 units of blood were collected.
