“Teamwork paves the way to success”

The secret to Tata Steel’s success as a raw material supplier to Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd is the team work and coordination between marketing, the local External Processing Agent and the customer. Close liaison between them permitted Tata Steel to gain the confidence of the customer and meet his approval and stringent needs. Now Tata Steel takes pride in the fact that “every Honda Scooter plying on Indian roads has Tata Steel material on the outside.”

There are eight top Indian companies who supply raw materials to HMSI, a 100% subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., Japan and India’s leading scooter manufacturer. The company was incorporated in 1999 to establish Honda’s first overseas plant. The objective behind this plant was to meet the ever increasing demand of the rapidly growing two-wheeler market in India. With its arrival, greater quality and environment consciousness as well as commitment to innovation has been injected in the Indian two-wheeler market.

Tata Steel carefully watched the changes initiated by HMSI and kept working to strengthen its case as a single source supplier for outer body parts such as the front and centre covers. Tata Steel’s perseverance paid off with it being awarded the “Best Supplier Award” for the year 2003- 04 in the raw materials category by HMSI. The awarded was received on behalf of the company by Mr C V Shastry during HMSI’s Supplier Convention on
March 12.
