10th visit of
Lifeline Express
in 25 years

Tata Steel’s association with the Lifeline Express dates back to 1991 when its sponsored the first visit of this mobile “Hospital on Rails” to Chainpur. Over these 25 years, the Company has sponsored six camps, each spanning a month in Jharkhand and a total of 10 in all, benefitting tens of thousands of the underprivileged and poorest of poor in remote rural parts of eastern India.

The location chosen for the tenth visit - Sini Railway Station - proved to be a boon. Beneficiaries from West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar and Jharkhand were easily able to access the treatment offered free of cost by the sponsor, Tata Steel. arrival of the Express in villages around the area, media interest in the services offered by the Lifeline Express, ensured that patients such as five-year-old Manisha Kumar from Sheikhpura in Bihar and four-year-old Vimal Mahakul from Phulbani in Orissa, took advantage of its presence.

At the inaugural ceremony for the Lifeline Express at Sini, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Mr Arjun Munda, said that Tata Steel’s repeated sponsorship of the Express was tangible evidence of the Company’s commitment to improving the quality of health of the people of the state. “Better health standards are vital for the prosperity and progress of Jharkhand. Therefore, a need exists to encourage more corporate houses, like Tata Steel, to contribute towards developing the health infrastructure of the state,” Mr Munda asserted.

 
“70% of India’s population lives in rural areas, which have inadequate health services. Corporate houses must share the responsibility with the government in developing health care infrastructure.”

Lifeline Express offers on the spot help through diagnostic, medical and surgical interventions to those who are unable to afford the cost of treating even those ailments which are preventable.
