Tsunami relief measures undertaken by TRC:
> Construction of permanent dwellings
units and community amenities centres
at Nagapattinam, Kanyakumari,
Cuddalore and Kovalam
>
Village Knowledge Centres set up with
MS Swaminathan Research Foundation
> FRP boats, catamarans, outboard
engines and fishing nets distributed at
Kovalam and Kanyakumari
> Promoting alternate livelihood, including
seaweed culture, vocational training for
women and reducing school dropouts in
villages
Rather than restore past, youth are encouraged by Tata Relief Committee to take up alternate sources of livelihood, so that in the long term the victims of this disaster are not only able to rebuild their lives but are also able to meet their aspirations by offering them much greater hope for the future. |
