Greentech Gold for Noamundi
Safety and the health of its employees, including contractors’ workers, are top priority for Tata Steel. Rigorous efforts are continuously made by it to ensure adoption of Standard Operating Procedures and Operating Practices. Its efforts have always been far greater than that necessary for statutory compliance. The Company has assumed an exceedingly proactive role and its engagement in safety can be viewed as being reflective of its character as a pioneer in Social Responsibility.
This effort of Tata Steel in its Mines Division was rewarded with the Noamundi Iron Mine winning the 6th Annual Greentech Safety Gold Award 2006 in the Mining and Metal sector. On February 22, the award was presented to it by Mr Tony Smith, Executive Director, National Safety Council, USA and was received on behalf of Noamundi by Mr Sachindra Mahato, President, Noamundi Mazdoor Union and Mr Rajesh Kumar, Senior Manager (Safety).

Top Exporter Award for Tata Steel
Even as there is great demand for iron ore from India, Tata Steel, which refuses to part with this natural wealth of the country, has been conferred with the “2007 IMM Top Exporter Award” by the Institute of Marketing & Management. The award was jointly presented to the Company at the 34th World Marketing Congress by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting & Parliamentary Affairs, Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munshi and Dr Akhilesh Das, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Steel.

Annual Results outstrip expectations
Riding high on
a 8% growth in Steel production and the
highest ever production at both its Hot
Strip Mill and Cold Rolling Mill, greater
efficiencies in operations and a 29% growth
in sales to the Automotive Sector, Tata
Steel posted a Turnover of Rs 19,763 Crores
and a Net Profit After Tax of Rs 4,222
Crores in FY 07 as against a Turnover of Rs
17,144 Crores in FY 06 and a Net Profit
After Tax of Rs 3506 Crores. The EPS grew
significantly to touch Rs 73.76 per share in
FY 07 as against Rs 63.65 per share of the
last year.
The Company’s
steel business generated a Revenue of Rs
15,627.86, while the rest came from Ferro
Alloys and Minerals and other business
segments of the Company. The over 15% growth
in Turnover, as the Company steps into it
centenary year and speeds up its integration
with Corus, has built up a jubilant mood
within the organisation. Expectations are
now soaring and everyone looks ahead to a
year of growth and globalisation, even as
more hard work goes in. |
