Recognition for transparency
and accountability
Mr Mervyn King, author of King’s Committee Report on Corporate Governance was the Chairman of the Awards Committee, comprising eminent international and Indian personalities who selected Tata Steel for the Best Governed Company Award 2006. Conferred by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance, the award recognises organisations that follow global corporate governance principles of transparency, accountability and equity.
Tata Steel received the award for “Corporate Practices, which have enabled the Company to direct and control its affairs in an efficient manner and maximize its shareholder’s value.” The award was presented to the Company by Mr Philip Armstrong, Head, Global Corporate Governance Forum on November 24 at Mumbai.

Honoured in the name of Mother Teresa
The Mother Teresa Award for the Corporate Citizen 2005 was conferred on Tata Steel by the Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) Loyola College, Chennai, to “uphold as role models business enterprises that have shown outstanding social commitment and commendable involvement in corporate responsibility.”
The award was presented to the Company by
His Excellency, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala and was received on behalf of the Company by Dr S Asokan, Chief, Titania Business Unit. The award was instituted in 1998 in memory of Mother Teresa, the Angel of Mercy and Compassion.

Once in three years, LIBA constitutes an Award Committee of individuals from different fields who have gained eminence as a result of their social commitment and wide experience. The panel for the current year comprised Mr N Vittal, IAS (Retd), former Central Vigilance Commissioner, Government of India, Mr A X Alexander, IPS, former Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, Mr Gopal Srinivasan, M.D., TVS Electronics, Mr Ramraj, former MD & CEO, Sify Ltd., Mr T S Krishnamurthy, IRS (Retd.) former Chief Election Commissioner and Mrs Preetha Reddy, MD Apollo Hospital. |
