Growth Plans

The year began on a buoyant note with the Company announcing its investment in Millennium Steel, Thailand - (now Tata Steel, Thailand) - and joint ventures in Iran. Progress was also made in taking forward plans to set up greenfield projects in Orissa, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. In Kalinganagar, Orissa, Tata Steel, launched its Resettlement and Rehabilitation Policy under the Tata Parivar programme, to set the highest standards for greenfield project. While on the one hand, technical training began for designated members of the families to be relocated by the project, work to finalise machinery, equipment and plant layout kept pace.

The Company finalised its Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy to benefit each of the families to be impacted by its greenfield projects. The Tata Steel Parivar Policy is a comprehensive plan for the Total Rehabilitation of displaced families. Its objective is to ensure improvement in the quality of life keeping in mind cultural, religions and emotional needs. The Company will provide compensation, house building assistance and temporary allowances to resettle lives. Its rehabilitation colonies will have all civic amenities including electricity, water, medical services, educational institutions as well as community centres. In addition, it will provide employment and undertake employability training to nominated members of families, youth of displaced families and members of women self help
