The new look bus shelter soon to dot Jamshedpur

If Tata Steel is to find new and innovative uses for steel, then obviously the best way to display them is to put them to use in the steel city of Jamshedpur. The company has, therefore, been constructing bus shelters, garages and club houses with steel. The latest among these additions are modern steel intensive bus shelters. Each of these is complete with an efficient advertisement space, carries the Tata Steelium name and has been erected by Construction Solutions Group.

Also a steel intensive technology club house in the Suvarnarekha Flats area and two model garages have been constructed by Construction Solutions Group. Aesthetically beautiful, the company’s Town Planning and Engineering department now intends to construct 80 such garages and renovate and introduce bus shelters all over the city.

A Customer Interaction Meet arranged by Tata (UAE) FZE in Dubai, UAE was attended by seventeen key customers of Tata International’s steel SBU. Dr T Mukherjee, Deputy Managing Director, Steel and Mr S C Saxena, Managing Director, TM International Logistics, Mr Sudhir Deoras, Managing Director, Tata International and Mr Yash Sinha, Counsel General of India in Dubai participated in the meet.

The steel business being handled by Tata (UAE) FZE, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata International has been growing from strength to strength. Sales increased by 75% in the last financial year over the previous one. The first half of the current financial year has already seen a further growth of 60% over the corresponding period last year.

The recently renovated office of Tata (UAE) FZE was inaugurated by the Managing Director, Mr B Muthuraman on October 14, 2003. Also present on this momentous occasion were Deputy Managing Director Steel, Dr T Mukherjee and senior executives of the company.

The main business focus of this office is steel, engineering, minerals and metals, bulk commodities, leather and leather products, as well as IT. Tata (UAE) facilitates and provides value addition for a number of Groups companies including Tata Steel, Indian Hotels, Tata Chemicals and Tata Power.

Explaining that “integration of Tata Steel’s International Trading Division into Tata International made sound business sense,” Mr Muthuraman applauded the improvement in trading business for both steel and minerals.

 


Oracle Award
for path breaking technology deployment

Tata Steel’s use of Oracle technology over the past eight years, and expertise in Oracle tools, as well as extensive use of the software in the 9i Application Server in the Cold Rolling Mill, has resulted in the company being conferred with Oracle’s Exemplary Implementation Award. This Award recognises the use of technology to improve profitability in a company.
Explaining Oracle’s decision to selected Tata Steel for the award, its Managing Director, Mr Shekhar Dasgupta said, “Tata Steel’s deployment of Oracle Technologies is exemplary and path breaking. It has helped Tata Steel to increase profitability through enhanced efficiency and productivity.
Mr Varun Jha, Chief Information Officer, Tata Steel received the award on behalf of the company.
