A presentation on "Development of People through
Education and Training" by Mr Ranjit Ram of the company's Shavak Nanavati Training
Centre was adjudged the "Best Presentation" at the International Convention of
Quality Circles 2003 held at Tokyo, Japan.
Participants from over 24 countries attended and over 145
presentations were made at the convention, which was organised by the Union of Japanese
Scientists and Engineers.

At the same convention, the company's "Concast"
Quality Circle of LD#1 presented their paper. One hundred and thirty eight teams from 14
countries presented papers in five sessions. Although there was no classification or
ranking, their presentation received several accolades. The Chairman of JUSE commended the
team for its performance and singled it out for praise as no interpreter was required for
it.

| Faraday, Nirmal and Diamond
Quality Circles of Tata Steel's Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division's Sukinda Chromite
Mine won the Excellent Category Award or the first prize at the National Level Competition
for Quality Circles held at Madurai from December 3 to 5, 2003. A fourth Pancham Quality
Circle from Bamnipal won a Distinction, i.e., the second prize for its performance. Quality circles from Sukinda and Bamnipal also participated in the
state level QCFI, Rourkela Chapter QC Competition and won several prizes, including three
second prizes and a third prize.
