the new project in South Africa |
W!th the selection of Richards Bay. with an efficient port
structure and minimisation of logistics cost, Tata Steel is poised to become the only
ferro chrome producer in the world to have a multi-locale supply base. This selection of
the South African township came about after a detailed on-site evaluation of countries
worldwide for their long-term sustainability of ferro chrome production and
discussion with their respective governments- During his visit to South Africa in
February, the Managing Director, Mr. B Muthuraman met with management consultants KPMG to
discuss the path forward and the economic fundamentals of South Africa. He also took part
in the first Public Participation Programme at Richards Bay. His presentation was well
receiVed, in an area sensitive to the environmental impact of industry.
