Tubes Division on Mission to DUSSELDORF

The Indian team with international tube manufacturers

Under the chairmanship of EIC, Tubes Division, Mr Manzer Hussain, a mission of the Indian Precision Tube Manufacturers attended the International Tube & Wire Fair at Dusseldorf. The team, which included members from Tube Investments, Bhushan Limited, Hansa Tubes, CII and Tata Steel, met manufacturers and industry associations at Germany.

During their stay at Germany, the team had discussions with the German Industry Association, the Consul General of India at Germany, International Tube Association, CIDEX and the organisers of the fair, Messe Dusseldorf. This gave them an opportunity to study the latest developments in precision tube manufacturing. It also allowed that the Indian tube manufacturers to present their capabilities to potential overseas customers.

The company’s Tubes Division had participated in the fair. It’s pavilion drew a lot of visitors, including customers and prospective buyers from Europe, the Gulf countries and some from Africa. Queries were received from tube rolling, cutting and tube processing machinery manufacturers as well. The Consul General of India in Germany was among the distinguished visitors to the pavilion.

From Germany they travelled to Turin to visit the factory of the largest car manufacturer in Italy.

Small Group Giant Improvements

Mr. B. Muthuraman and Mr. R B B Singh congratulate the winner

Small Group Activities or SGAs in the company have grown to be an important force for improvement initiatives. These teams pilot improvements in systems and processes within departments, with considerable gain for their own department as well as the company.

On April 20, at a function held within the Steel Works, teams who had made a significant contribution during the year were recognised for their efforts. “Pathfinder” of Coke Plant was adjudged the best overall contributor for the year. During the function they provided an overview of the initiatives incorporated by them, one of which resulted in a manufacturing problem at the plant being solved.

Impressed by the note on which their presentation ended,“We are at the beginning,” Mr Muthuraman stated that the desire to perform better and the urge to change and continually look towards the future as a new beginning is crucial to the future of the company.

Tata Steel’s SGAs have consistently exhibited an unparalleled ability to excel, winning laurels both nationally and internationally.

Recognitions bestowed on Tata Steel’s SGAs:

“PATH FINDER” Quality Circle of Coke Plant won the second prize at the 15th National Convention on Quality Circles organised by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII)

The company won five awards in the “Excellent Category” and one in the “Distinction Category” at the 17th National Convention on Quality Circles.
