Men who make Tata Steel 'shine'

Dr T Mukherjee congratulates the winner of the Special Shabashi Award

There are some extraordinary people, who through their creativity, their perseverance and extraordinary commitment to the organisation bring that something extra to Tata Steel, which others might not find elsewhere.

When they see a problem, when they perceive a need, when they know they can contribute, these employees make the Company proud of them. They are the winners of the Special Shabashi awards of the company.

BALM FOR VICTIMS OF FIRE TRAGEDY AT AGASIYA

The home and belongings of 18 families of Agasiya village were reduced to ashes by a fire, which ravaged the village on March 16. Immediately thereafter, Ms Saroj Srivastava, SDO, Chandil established contact with Tata Steel Rural Development Society to seek relief for the affected families. In response, Tata Relief Committee and the Joint Departmental Council, of which TSRDS is a part mobilised assistance for the victims.

Through personal contributions and resource mobilisation, the members of the JDC donated rice and chura for the victims, who had lost even the grain stored by them. Each family received 25 kgs of rice and 5 kgs of gram. Mr R K Sharma of SNTI donated an entire month’s salary to allow them to buy hay for their cattle. The relief material was distributed among the villagers in the presence of Ms Madhumita Mahto, Circle Officer, Chandil.

On March 23, TSRDS organised a general health check up camp to ascertain if any of the villagers had suffered from toxic smoke inhalation. The next day, the TRC team distributed GC sheets among the villagers to enable them to rebuild their homes.

This is yet another instance when the Tata Steel family and particularly its employees have responded with care and compassion to the victims of an unforseen tragedy. They, along with the Tata Relief Committee, have rendered immediate relief and assistance to the victims in an endeavour to bring back the “sunshine” in their lives.
