IP Cell & GRP

Intellectual Property (IP) Cell

The Intellectual Property (IP) cell of Tata Steel was started in 2001. It is a single window for capturing new developments across the company and filing them as intellectual property. It conducts a number of workshops and programmes to boost IP awareness among employees and to disseminate information on rules and restrictions relevant to IP protection.

The IP cell also strives to benchmark with international best practices in order to unlock the value of IP through licensing and commercialization. The initiatives taken by the IP cell have helped Tata Steel increase its total IP portfolio (filed and granted patents and copyrights) from 32 in FY 1999-00 to 517 till date (01 Oct 2011).

Global Research Programme (GRP)

The Global Research Programme (GRP) was started in November 2010 in a bid to utilize the best resources available across all research centers in RD&T, irrespective of their geographical location. The objective of the program is to deliver an optimum research portfolio by striking a balance between immediate research needs of the business units and long term research programmes necessary for developing new products, processes and solutions. In achieving the objective, GRP aims to implement globally with speed, retain high quality manpower and create value for the group.
