Sukinda Chromite Mine Won National Safety Award

Jamshedpur, March 7, 2003

Sukinda Chromite Mine of Tata Steel's FA & M Division has been selected for the National Safety Award (Mines) for the year 2001 under the category "Longest Accident Free". This award is given by Ministry of Labours, Govt of India.

Sukinda Chromite Mines started its operation in 1960 and has won several National and state level awards for safety. Recently this mines also won First Prize in the overall best performance in Eastern Region Safety Week celebration for the year 2002.

Sukinda Chromite Mine is the first Chromite Mine of the Country started by Tata Steel and is also first Asian Chromite mine to get to get ISO-9001 and ISO-14000 Certifications.

This is a result of Tata Steel's commitment towards safety and environmental sustainability at all its work place at all locations.

The award will be given away by Hon'ble President of India.
