August 8, 2001 Tata Steel has been conferred the prestigious SAP Star
Installation Award in India. Awarded every three years, the Star Installation Award
recognises those select few companies which have innovatively used SAP as a strategic tool
for organisational transformation. These companies are acknowledged for their vision
to anticipate opportunities and constant strive to improve their competitive advantage to
achieve and hold their leadership positions.
According to a communiqué received from SAP India Ltd, Tata Steel, Asia's first and
India's largest integrated private sector steel plant has deployed technology to achieve
transformation in a ninety-year young enterprise, through constant learning, innovation
and refinement of its business process. In Tata Steel, SAP was implemented across 46
locations within eight months. The introduction of SAP solutions within Tata Steel has
resulted in efficient business processes, enhanced customer service, reduced costs,
improved productivity and a host of other benefits. Thus, Tata Steel exemplifies a great
Indian company, which blends the economies of large scale operations with the nimbleness
and flexibility of today's responsive enterprise.
The Award was presented to Tata Steel today by Mr. Les Hayman, President & CEO, SAP
Asia Pacific and Board Member, SAP, AG.
