Tata Steel completed the first nine months of FY07 on a
buoyant note with impressive increase in its production and sales volumes of both hot
metal 4.1 million tonnes and crude steel produ 3.7 million tonnes was higher by compared
to the figures of corresponding period of last year. The saleable steel production at 3.66
million tonnes registered a significant increase of 11 %.
The total sales recorded 3.532 million tonnes, an increase of 11.70 %.
The domestic sale of long products has increased by 30% .The sale of TATA
TISCON has increased by 50% and the market share in the rebar segment has increased
to 9% compared to the corresponding period last financial year. The cumulative volume of
Tata Shaktee sold since its brand launch is expected to reach 1 million Tonne in March
2007. The YTD sales figure is 4.5% higher than previous year. Tata Steel becomes the first
steel company in India to start selling rebar by length, which is how customer uses rebar
there by cutting down on cost at his end.
The Indian Automotive Market is expected to see a growth of 17% - 18%
in the current financial year and Tata Steel is all set to take the advantage of this boom
in the automotive industry. Our Market Share in domestic automotive segment is expected to
be 43% in FY07 as against 41% in FY06. In terms of volume, this would translate into
increase in sales to approx. 0.85 million tons as against 0.67 million tons in FY06, a
growth of 29%.Another notable improvement would be increase in sales of Galvanized
products to 43,000 mt in FY07 (E) from 27000 mt in FY06.
Tata Steel has also received awards from Hyundai, Honda Motorcycle, TVS
and Whirlpool as a testimony of our customer focused approach.
Tata Steels Greenfield projects in Orissa and Chattisgrah are
progressing on scheduled with placement of equipment order for Kalinganagar Project in
Orissa and commencement of the land acquisition process. Jharkhand Project is awaiting
announcement of R & R policy of the state government, due to be announced by the end
of January,07. The construction work of Ferrochrome Project in South Africa is in full
swing.
Tata Steel recently launched ASPIRE, which continue to be the brand
name for improvement at Tata Steel. The programme focused on T3- Theory of Constraints
(TOC), Total Quality Management (TQM) and Technology. Tata Steel decided to declare 2007
as Safe Centenary year 2007.
