Tata Steel Crude Steel production reached 3.437 mt on 18^th March 2001. With this, the company surpassed its previous best production of crude steel of 3.434 mt in the year 1999-2000 on 16^th March, which was also better than the previous year’s performance. An announcement to this effect was made today at a function in its Steel Works in Jamshedpur, which was attended by the Managing Director, Dr Jamshed J Irani, senior executives of the company alongwith with top officials of the Tata Workers’ Union.

The month of March has always been a period of record performances in Tata Steel. This year too, the company bettered its performance in several areas, such as Total Coke Production (Blast Furnace and Nut) – 2.156 mt, Works Saleable Steel production – 3.353 mt (exclusive of Cold Rolling Mill) both on 12^th March and Sinter Production – 3.735 mt on 14^th March.

The company also aims to cross its highest ever production of Hot Metal by 27^th March. In the year 1999-2000, the Steel Company had produced 3.689 mt of Sinter, 2.118 mt Coke, 3.888 mt Hot Metal, 3.434 mt Crude Steel and 3.287 mt of Works Saleable Steel (WSS). The company expects to produce 3.874 mt of Sinter, 2.236 mt of Coke, 3.936 mt of Hot Metal, 3.565 mt of Crude Steel and 3.483 mt of WSS (exclusive of Cold Rolling Mill). The Steel Works has also improved its performance in several other areas in this year (April 2000 – Feb 2001). Some of these are:
