Jamshedpur, May 8, 2006 Mr. B Muthuraman,
Managing Director, Tata Steel inaugurated the Jigging & Hydrocyclone Plant today at
Noamundi Iron Mine of Tata Steel situated in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. This is
the first automated Jigging Plant for Iron ore fines, in the country. The capacity of the
plant facility is about 300 tonnes per hour or 1.6 MTPA throughput. The construction of
the plant started with the ground breaking by Dr. T. Mukherjee Dy. Managing Director
(Steel) on 11th February 2004 and has been completed in about two years.
The installation of the Jiggling Plant is one of the steps taken by
Tata Steel to effectively use iron ore fines, thereby conserving prime natural resources
as well as reducing Coke consumption and increasing the productivity of blast furnaces.
The plant has been installed with the help of HWI with imported component in collaboration
from KHD Germany.
The Hydro-cyclone Plant installed, will help in recovering iron values
from the slime being discharged from washing plant and reduce alumina level. This plant
has been supplied by TRF Limited, which has also supplied the conveyor system.
On this occasion, Mr. Muthuraman appreciated the effort of the project
team and all the partners involved in construction of the plant. The inauguration of this
plant was also attended by M/s. AD Baijal, Vice President (Raw Materials), Avinash Prasad,
Vice President (Industrial Relations), Hridayeshwar Jha, General Manager (OMQ), GT Reddy,
General Secretary, Noamundi Mazdoor Union and other dignitaries.
