Tata Steel has given a Christmas gift to its employee - Test cricketer Ajit Agarkar. The
young and talented Agarkar has been on the rolls of the steel major since prior to making
his debut for India.Agarkar receives this recognition in form of an
elevation by two levels, an unusual precedent in Tata Steel for an equally sensational
performance in his short career.
Ajit Agarkar has established two benchmarks in his short career. In a
one-dayer against Zimbabwe in Rajkot on December 14, Agarkar scored 62 runs in a mere 32
deliveries and created a new Indian record for the fastest fifty off 22 balls. With this
he broke Kapil Dev's record of fastest fifty off 25 balls. This is a national benchmark.
Agarkar also has to his credit the fastest fifty wickets in 23 matches, which is better
than Aussie Dennis Lillee's world record of 50 wickets in 24 matches.
