Jamshedpur, March 3, 2004 The shining edifice that Tata Steel is today is the outcome
of the vision and inspirational leadership of its Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. The
Tata House, a conglomerate of several business ventures and known globally for its world
class products and services, for managing its business on sound ethical principles and
returning to the community the profits it makes was founded by him almost a century ago.
As a tribute to this great legendary, several divisions of Tata Steel and some Group
Companies celebrated Founder's Day today at Jamshedpur with much pomp and gaiety. In
addition, senior citizens of the city of Jamshedpur, representatives from workers union
from the steel works and raw materials divisions of the Steel Company, along with the Mr
Ratan N Tata, Group Chairman, Dr JJ Irani, Director, Tata Sons and Director, Tata Steel,
Mr B Muthuraman, Managing Director, Tata Steel, Mr PK Kaul, Director, Tata Steel, Mr Alan
Rosling, Director, Tata Sons, and Deputy Managing Directors of Tata Steel, Dr T Mukherjee
and Mr AN Singh paid homage to the Founder at his statue in the steel works. At a separate
location in the city, numerous social organisations, citizens forums paid homage to the
Founder. During the celebrations, Mr Ratan Tata meet various sections of the employees and
their families, union representatives and the citizens of Jamshedpur.
As part of the celebrations, several events have been organized in the city. In a
unique tribute to its Founder, JN Tata (1839 - 1904) and its illustrious leaders JRD Tata
(1904 - 1993) and Naval Tata (1904 - 1989), an exhibition, "Century of Trust"
was inaugurated by Mr Ratan N Tata at Jubilee Park. The exhibition has been set up to mark
the death centenary of the Founder, JN Tata and the birth centenaries of JRD Tata and
Naval Tata. The exhibition is open to all citizens of Jamshedpur and depicts the life
history and the contributions made by each of them in the industrial growth of India. In
the Founders Day Sports, employees and citizens participated in several sports events.
Earlier on the eve of the Founder's Day celebrations, Tata Steel's Managing Director,
Mr B Muthuraman and its Director, Mr PK Kaul inaugurated the special lighting of the
Jubilee Park, a permanent feature of the Founder's Day celebrations each year.
